Salmon River Adventure Trip Dates, Rates, and Details

River Rafting on the wild Salmon River with Yellow Jacket River GuidesTrip Length: 5 days, 4 nights

Trip Location: The adventure begins in Salmon with an orientation meeting at the Stagecoach Inn the evening before the launch. The next morning, we drive 68 miles down the Salmon River to Corn Creek, where the road ends and the wilderness begins.

The river portion of our five day trip ends approximately 80 miles downstream at Vinegar or Carey Creek, where we meet a charter bus for the 70 mile drive to McCall. Most of our guests choose to stay the night in this lovely lakeside town before beginning travel home.

High or low water conditions may necessitate adapting the trip beginning and/or ending point. If alternate transportation is required (such as a flight out from the river corridor), additional costs will be the responsibility of the participant.

On some trips, we spend our third night at China Bar Lodge, featuring hot showers, beds, and unbelievable Ranch Style cooking. Accommodations at China Bar are rustic and cozy with two large sleeping cabins, each with a shower room and 4 private rooms for couples and a living room, plus the main lodge and one of the West's only triple-seater outhouses. Our hosts at China Bar put their hearts into providing an evening that complements the Salmon River experience.

Some of our late season trips may instead feature the last night at Shepp Ranch, a historic ranch with hotel style accommodations, including indoor plumbing and a hot tub. In this case, on morning 5 you will fly on a chartered flight to your choice of Salmon, McCall, or Boise. If you prefer not to travel in a smaller plane, there are additional transportation options (call for details).

2013 Trip rates: $1499.00 per person
Youth Rates:
20% discount up to two kids ($1199 each), additional dependent youth come for half of adult price ($749 each).

Trip cost includes all onriver lodging, meals, necessary equipment, guide services, and transportation beginning from our Salmon departure to our McCall arrival or our Shepp Ranch arrival (possible on August 11, 19, 27 and September 4th launch dates), sales tax, and a $20 per person Forest Service Recreation Charge. It does not include pre or post trip meals and lodging, specialty beverages (liquor), forest user fees offset charge (3%), or gratuities.

(A note on beverages: Yellow Jacket River Guides provides all the fresh water you can drink, available at all times. In the morning, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and juice are served. At lunch and in camp powdered drink mixes such as Gatorade and lemonade are available. You are welcome to bring all of the additional beverages that you think you can drink. YJRG does not allow alcohol consumption during the day while rafting.)

Whitewater rafting is a service industry, and tips are a greatly appreciated way to reward your guides for exceptional care. If you choose to tip, 10 to 20 percent of retail trip price is a good guideline.

We accept payment in the form of cash, check, money order, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Credit card payments are subject to a 3% convenience fee.

Getting Here is Part of the Adventure!

Look at any map of Idaho and you'll see a great big empty spot in the central mountains. Here you'll find the Salmon River Mountains, home of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. No towns, no roads, no power lines, no cell phone towers. And we'll float right through the heart of it on our five day journey.

The allure of Idaho is in its undeveloped and rural character, and travelling around our state can be an adventure in its self. Your adventure could include breathtaking backcountry flights, a scenic mountain drive or even a thrilling jetboat ride.

In order to accomodate many different modes of travel, our Salmon River Adventure includes transportation beginning in Salmon, and ending in McCall. You have many choices to connect the dots:

For those flying to Idaho:
We recommend you fly into Boise prior to 4 pm the day before your launch.

Option 1: Schedule a charter flight with Salmon Air Taxi to bring you from Boise (Point A) to Salmon (Point B) that afternoon. The day after our trip ends, an early flight back to Boise from McCall (Point E) will leave you plenty of time for an afternoon flight home. This round trip flight package costs ~$360 dollars per person, with fare subject to change due to fuel price increases.

Option 2: Schedule a charter flight with Salmon Air Taxi to bring you from Boise (Point A) to Salmon (Point B) that afternoon. This flight costs ~$205 per person (with fare subject to change due to fuel price increases). The day after our trip ends, an early ground shuttle back to Boise from McCall (Point E) will leave you plenty of time for an afternoon flight home. This charter costs $450 (up to 25 passengers), and can be an economical option for group of 3 or more. We will coordinate these arrangements with other trip participants. The trip is about 100 miles on a scenic, riverside highway, and takes about 2.5 hours.

Option 3: Rent a car in Boise (Point A) and drive to Salmon (Point B). This is a stunning 250 mile drive. While you are on your river trip, your vehicle will be shuttled to meet you in McCall (Point E) at the end of the trip. This shuttle costs $250 plus fuel. After our trip, make the 100 mile scenic drive back to Boise. For a midsize rental, this option will cost roughly $650 total, and makes an economical option for a party of three or more.

For those driving to Idaho:
We suggest you arrive in Salmon prior to 6pm the day before your launch.

Option 1: Drive to Salmon (Point B) the day before your launch. Early in the morning after our trip, fly with Salmon Air Taxi back to Salmon from McCall (Point E) to return you to your vehicle. This flight will cost you ~$175 per person (with fare subject to change due to fuel price increases).

Option 2: Drive to Salmon (Point B) the day before your launch. While you are on your river trip, your vehicle will be shuttled to meet you in McCall (Point E) at the end of the trip. This shuttle costs $250 plus fuel.

Option 3: Drive to McCall (Point E) prior to the trip. Call Salmon Air Taxi and arrange an afternoon flight to Salmon (Point B) the day before our trip begins. At the end of our trip, we'll drop you at your vehicle at the McCall airport. This flight will cost you ~$175 per person (with fare subject to change due to fuel price increases).

Featured Option: The Salmon River Jetback

The "jetback" offers a unique opportunity to add a once in a lifetime Salmon River jetboat trip onto your vacation at a minimal cost or even as the least expensive way to complete round trip travel. This option is only available to us during at certain water levels, final arrangements are usually made in the last month prior to your trip.

Here's how it works: travel to Salmon by ground or air to begin our trip. Ground transportation takes us to Corn Creek, where our rafting trip begins. On the fifth day, our chartered jetboat meets us on the river. we load up and two to three hours later we arrive back at Corn Creek where we started. This trip is charged by the boatload and makes an economical option for parties who drive to Salmon.
