"I'm an ex-river guide turned kayaker...it was a great trip. Much better than the typical commercial raft trip...it's sort of like a private trip with someone else cooking and rowing you gear for you. Perfect for the typical do-it-yourself kayaker.""I'm an ex-river guide turned kayaker...it was a great trip. Salmon River excitement at Big Mallard RapidsPrice includes: Sleeping bag, tent, sleeping pad, dry bags, lifejacket (Type V: most kayakers prefer to bring their own), ammo can, kayak guides, limited instruction, raft support, meals from breakfast Day One through lunch Day Five.

Cost does not include: Off river meals, lodging, Idaho state tax, USFS fees, specialty beverages, or gratuities. (Whitewater rafting is a service industry, and tips are a greatly appreciated way to reward your guides for exceptional care. If you choose to tip, 10 to 20 percent of trip cost is a good guideline.)

Transportation: Our paddling trips meet at Corn Creek (the put-in), and end at Carey Creek (the takeout near Riggins). There are several shuttle options, depending on river flows and group size. If our trip includes raft passengers, transportation from Salmon to the put-in and to McCall from the takeout may be provided.

If water levels permit, a group jetback is the most affordable shuttle option. A jetboat meets us at our ending point and returns you and your gear to Corn Creek on a thrilling three to four hour boat ride. The jetboat is billed by the boatload, so depending on numbers, your shuttle will generally cost between 100 to 200 dollars. Paddlers may also have their vehicles shuttled around to the takeout, ~ a ten hour drive. With gas, the shuttle cost is roughly $350-$400 per vehicle.

Flying to and around Idaho with your kayak will cost you an additional $75 per flight. If you are flying to the state, you'll want to consider renting a boat from us or one of the great paddling shops in our area.

NOTE: Yellow Jacket River Guides will make every effort to see that your Salmon River experience exceeds your expectations. Our goal is to create a paddling vacation that you will remember fondly for a lifetime. As on any guided expedition, YJRG retains the right to make any and all trip decisions to ensure your safety and trip quality for all participants. Please make sure that you accurately represent your paddling ability.
